How important is hydration?

Water is the basic element for cleaning out toxins in the body.  It helps regulate body temperature, keeps joints moving, prevents infections, keeps organs functioning properly.  Hydration also helps balance out mood, improves sleep quality and cognition. More benefits than we would think water simply does right!!  Think when you wake up and the first thing you do is drink coffee.  Coffee is ok, (Organic is best), but water with lemon and add some pink Himalayan salt is a great way to wake up the body and set for the next task.  Have your coffee second.

Why lemon?

Lemon not only adds great taste to your water but it helps with the gut and digestion.  If your having bowel difficulty and digestion issues, start adding lemon to your water to see if that helps.  Lemons are also a great source of citric acid and vitamin C which is a great contributor to fighting infections.  Pure lemon is a great habit to get into.  Try and avoid sugary or artificial sweeteners that have multiple chemicals in them.  These could contribute to poor digestion and gut issues.  Remember it’s clean and good for your body.  Try and think of this when drinking that first glass of water of the day.

Why add pink Himalayan salt?

I can only speak for myself on this one and encourage the benefits.  Once a crossfit athlete, I had an awful dehydration experience which led me to the hospital with IV’s and developed a very mild case of rhab. Not fun, but thankfully recovered.  I learned that water and food with salt are so very important when competing in long strenuous activities such as Crossfit which is very taxing to the central nervous system.  On that note, I started adding salt tablets in my water and then later learned the benefits of pink Himalayan salt.  Learning that this salt is pure and clean and balances out the blood levels in your body, I was instantly gravitated by this amazing mineral.  It’s a great way to boost your electrolytes simply by adding a few sprinkles in your water everyday.  It stabilizes the blood levels and helps with circulation.  Very different from table salt, this is a staple you need to adopt in your water.

Summer and Hydration

As we enter the heat waves weeks this summer, please remember to bring and drink double amounts of water with you for all sports and events.  Train early, beat the heat, the sweat that comes out of your body won’t tell you it’s too late, drink before in between and after.  You can add electrolyte tablets in your water such as Heed or Nunn to add some flavor as well as electrolytes in your water.  Avoid sugary soda’s and juices as these will only increase thirst and work in conjunction with dehydration.  Create good habits and add 8-12 glasses of water a day.  I recommend grabbing a 64 oz water jug, with some lemon, pink Himalayan salt and a Nunn during physical activity.  Make it a good habit!!
